MENTAL ILLNESES ARE TREATABLE

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

  • The presence of excessive worry about a variety of topics, events, or activities. Worry occurs more often .
  • The worry is very difficult to control. 
  • The anxiety is accompanied by at least three of the following physical or cognitive symptoms 

  1. Edginess .
  2. Tiring easily.
  3. Impaired concentration.
  4. Irritability .
  5. Increased muscle aches .
  6. Difficulty sleeping.

Agoraphobia



  •  Fear about being in a place where escape may be difficult.
  • With or without panic attacks.
  • Over 95% of individuals presenting with agoraphobia also have panic disorder.
  • Two to three times more frequent in women than men.

Panic Disorder

  •  Intense fear or discomfort reaches peak within 10 minutes
  •  At least 4 of 13 symptoms
  • Mind – derealization/depersonalization, fear of losing control, and fear of dying
  •  Head – lightheaded/dizzy
  • Neck – choking
  • Chest – palpitation, shortness of breath, chest pain
  • Abdomen – nausea
  • Whole body – sweating, trembling, paresthesia, chills/hot flushes
  • Panic disorder
  •  Recurrent and unexpected panic attacks followed by at least one month of concern or worry related to future attacks
  • Panic disorder: comorbid conditions
  • Ninety percent of patients with panic disorder have another psychiatric condition
  • Sixty percent comorbidity for major depressive disorder
  • High comorbidity with other anxiety disorders and substance abuse Conditions of cardiology, respiratory, and neurology
