About the hospital

A hospital built around dignity.

Mental illness is medical illness — it deserves the same seriousness, the same science and the same respect as any other condition. SSK was built on that belief.

From a first OPD visit to round-the-clock inpatient care, every part of the hospital — our 20 psychiatric-trained nurses, 6 counselling psychologists, in-house EEG, lab and pharmacy — exists so that a patient and their family never have to run from place to place while managing something this important.

Evidence-based psychiatry

Careful diagnosis first — history, examination and investigations like EEG where needed — then treatment plans that follow current medical evidence, reviewed at every visit.

Privacy, always

What is discussed in the consultation room stays there. Records are confidential, and we never share your information without your consent, except where the law requires.

Families as partners

Recovery is stronger when families understand the illness. We involve caregivers in education, counselling and discharge planning — with the patient's consent.

Consultant Psychiatrist

Under the care of Dr. Mridul Sharma

Dr. Mridul Sharma, Consultant Psychiatrist at SSK Neuro-Psychiatry Hospital, Ferozepur

Dr. Mridul Sharma

MBBS MD · Neuropsychiatry 🎖 Gold Medalist Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr. Sharma leads both the outpatient and inpatient services at SSK. A gold medalist in his MD (Neuropsychiatry), he works at the meeting point of psychiatry and neurology — treating disorders of mood, thought and behaviour alongside the neurological conditions that often travel with them. His approach is simple: listen carefully, diagnose precisely, and use the least treatment that genuinely works.

Areas of focus: depression & mood disorders, anxiety & panic, psychotic disorders, de-addiction, epilepsy & neuropsychiatric conditions, sleep and memory disorders.

A word from your doctor

Five things Dr. Sharma wants every patient and family to know.

Mental illness is not weakness or "madness" — it is a treatable medical condition, just like diabetes or blood pressure.

Never reduce or stop psychiatric medicines on your own — symptoms can return. Make every change only after asking your doctor.

De-addiction is a matter of treatment, not just willpower — with the right help, full recovery is possible.

Asking for help is courage, not weakness. The earlier the treatment, the better the recovery.

A family's support is half the treatment — give the patient understanding, not taunts.

— Dr. Mridul Sharma, MBBS, MD Neuropsychiatry (Gold Medalist)

Your first visit

What happens on your first visit?

Most people are nervous before the first visit. Here is exactly what to expect — no surprises.

1

We listen

30–45 unhurried minutes. You talk, in your own words and your own language — Hindi, Punjabi or English.

2

We understand

Questions about sleep, mood, health and history. Tests like EEG only if actually needed — nothing extra.

3

It stays private

What you share stays in that room. Your records are confidential — shared with no one without your consent.

4

You leave with a plan

The diagnosis and plan explained in simple words. Medicines only if truly needed, and a clear follow-up date.

Seeing a psychiatrist does not mean you are "mad" — it means you take your health seriously.

Common questions

Questions families ask us every day.

Do I need an appointment before coming?

Walk-ins are welcome during OPD hours. Calling 011 6931 0723 beforehand reduces your waiting time. Emergencies are seen at any hour, without any appointment.

What are the OPD timings?

Tuesday to Sunday, 10:30 am – 2:30 pm and 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Monday OPD is closed. Emergency & IPD services run 24/7.

Will my visit stay confidential?

Yes. What is discussed in the consultation room stays there. Records are confidential and nothing is shared without your consent, except where the law requires.

What happens on the first visit?

Mostly, we listen — 30 to 45 minutes. Questions about sleep, mood, health and history; tests like EEG only if needed; then the plan is explained in simple words.

Does seeing a psychiatrist mean I am "mad"?

No. Mental illnesses are medical illnesses — like blood pressure or diabetes — and they are treatable. Coming early simply means recovering faster.

Is de-addiction treatment confidential? Can alcohol be stopped suddenly?

Treatment is confidential and judgement-free. But do not stop heavy alcohol suddenly on your own — sudden withdrawal can be dangerous and can even cause seizures. Medically supervised withdrawal is the safe way.

Can treatment happen without admission?

Most patients are treated in the OPD itself. Admission to our 20-bed inpatient unit is advised only when the doctor feels it is needed for safety or intensive care.

Will medicines continue lifelong?

Duration differs from person to person — many patients need medicines only for a limited period. Never stop or reduce them on your own; the doctor reviews them at every visit.
